Hair Channels! ~ How to use mini-guide

Hi! One of the reason of why I make the highlights in EA's way (besides from not liking the adjust shine thingy) it's that you can create a nice and subtle difference between colors. So if you're one of those who use the same color for everything, it's time to change!

First tip!: Roots have to be darker than the rest of the hair, but don't exaggerate.

Second tip!: Tips are very useful. Brighter colors will add more shine to your hair, and darker colors will create a 3D deep effect.
Third tip!: Highlights color can vary depending the shade of the hair. Here are some examples:

Use dark highlights on bright colors like blonde, you'll get a deepness effect that looks very very nice.

Use bright highlights on matte or dark colors, like red or brown. This way you can add more shine and volume to your hair.

And of course, you have the choice of crazy colors, and even those can look natural! If you're going for a bright color over black, instead of using pure black, use a dark shade of the same color you're using for the highlights.

Thanks for reading! I hope this helps to create nice looking hair colors ^-^

  1. this is REALLY helpful! i always used darker colored highlights thinking it would make it shinier, cause personally i don't like the 3-D-ish look, and now i know how stupid i am xP also... why am i the only one who has commented on this? i feel like a loner, lol

  5. @Anon: because the dark roots are usually in the texture (for example, Peggy) If you change the textures the dark roots will go away :)

  11. The .sims3pack files are installed using the Launcher only. The .packages files go into Mods/Packages folder.
If you can't install these haircolors, you can manually introduce the hex codes included with the files.

  16. Hello,

I am also having trouble downloading these correctly. At first I downloaded them to Documents --> Electronic Arts --> The Sims 3 --> Downloads, but then I saw that someone put them in Mods --> Packages, except that I don't have these folders? Do you have any idea what I can do?

    Thanks, sorry to bother you.

  23. Hey Nubie!

I was wondering where you got the hair for the red-head model, if you can remember? I know it's a really old post and understand that you may not be able to recall. Thanks!
